Spiritual Beings - False sense of security
Feedback
Passive agressive: Very smooth sounds in the intro. Nice atmospheres
and well produced beats. I love the slow evolving quality of it all.
Programming is cool and it's obvious that lots of time has been
spent by a very talented person creating this stuff. The attention
to detail is great. I wouldn't have classed it as trip hop... maybe
more IDM or just techno... whatever label you wanna put on it, it's
some damn fine music. The pads are beautiful. All the way through,
the tune kept progressing and reinventing the same themes with small
variations. Very clever and very good.
The burn (demo version): again, a great atmospheric intro. Good use
made of the rapid 32nd note beat repeats. Sound quality is
immaculate. This one sounds more futuristic and film like than the
previous track. This is a little quiet but there's plenty of
dynamics in the music, which is nice coz so many people master too
loud & ruin their tracks. Quite tense and teasing at points. Some of
the sounds are quite electro in quality. Yeah i think you have a
genre all to yourself here. Great melodies and bass lines,
especially towards the end. This is really great stuff.
Dawn of despair: Pretty keyboard sounds drifting over an almost
sinister sounding bass. Feels sad and reflective. This is more
experimental than the other two tunes. Once again i'm impressed with
the sound quality & production. The reverbs are so rich. Nice use of
the old style electro drum sounds and great beat. Very eerie and
creepy feeling in this tune. I can imagine it fitting with scenes of
devastation.
Wow. You produce some of the best electronica that i've ever heard.
The sound quality is second to none and you are producing some very
interesting tunes too. The chance to discover music as good as this
is exactly why i choose to review people. Thank you very much for
the music. It's quite simply brilliant. I'd love to know what gear
you're using, especially that reverb. Damn, this is great stuff!
mm
as a musician and listenner i appretiate ur work big time!
enjoyed every minute of it :)
extrodenarily beautiful. Enough said lol. Haunting ambience, crisp beats, kewl samples...yep, you got it all :). Just don't stop what you do so well.
Very very good,
~ajay~
im listening to passive aggressive now!!
i really like it.....
the start is very horror movie-ish, until the drums come in....
3min 50 or so, melodic bell type sounds or something layered with a nice pad, really nice....then at 4 min 20, great drums come in.....
definately some of the better low tempo break beat music ive heard for a while!
unfortunately im listening on headphones (not monitors) at the moment, so i wont comment on the production asspect...but it sounds good on the phones!!
nice work!!
I listened to the first few songs and was immediately struck by the strange and inventive use of textures to paint a sonic picture of some unseen landscape
deep within the human mind.
"the burn" is my favorite track, frenetic at first, then sinister and brooding. Keep up the good work.
Listening to "end of the tunnel" ... I like it really much, excellent drum programming! Pretty dark and original music, IMO sounds really professional,
cool fx and etc.
Best regards, Lakeus
very nice stuff, while I agree that some of the passages seem
like unreleased Mezzanine material, overall you've got something
really interesting and more importantly, emotional going on with
your music. Nice textures, well arranged, good beats.
Im listening to "Burn" and im really diggin it !! most deff gonna down-load some of your track's and let them
give my speakers a proper work out.......
This is good stuff - it gives your brain a good workout.
The samples and effects are all class - a little scary in places but good stuff
I really like this. Listening to burn at the minute and there's a bit at about 6 minutes where the beat changes and a nice rolling snare comes in.
That is class. I do think that the main kick is a little hard sounding but then it is half past two in the morning and i've been battering my ears
all night with my own stuff. (which is no where near as good as yours I hasten to add!)
End of the tunnel sounds like something TeeBee would make and play out. You should send him it.
I hope you don't mind if I download end of the tunnel to play out. Well its tough shit if you do cos i'm gonna!!
Nice one mate! Lots of nice layered sounds. Like 4.30 onwards especially. I can see where the massive attack thing comes from but we naturally try to
liken anything we here to something we've already heard. You've got a chilled but also quite threatening, eery mood going on here
( i checked out Depths of Despair ). I like it lots - only negative,
which is actually a positive to you is that i thought the ending was going to be a build up to another variation/drop.
I guess i mean it maybe finishes too soon ( for me anyways ). I will be checking your other stuff when i can.
i had a listen to the burn.
Wow what a great beginning. Really fantastic. Like an orchestra tuning up and the voices in the background etc.
Then that great pizzicato orchestra and the chord change on about 45 seconds.
It's certainly keeping me hooked!
The only thing I would say - is it's like about 4 pieces all stuck together. I think maybe it needs some more form.
It just keeps changing and changing - but maybe that's what you're into?
You're certainly good with drums and keeping stuff funky.
I'll be revisiting your stuff that's for sure.
Thanks,
Matthew.
ooh scary, great groove, chase scene in a movie perhaps? love the 32nd note hihat stuff, nice tweaking,
is it finished? if not i think it could go into some major chord changes somewhere and give us all hope that there still are things like cotton candy
and flowers and sunny beaches in the world still,
er but maybe that isn't the intention..... ooof.... note to self "lay off skunky buds before posting"
Israel-based electronic musician Depths of Despair creates a dark and somewhat scary variation of instrumental trip-hop.
DoD's track The Burn is a densely layered, vocal-free piece which easily falls into the above description, but is not limited by it.
The track starts out with an airy, almost film score music feel, with bouncy strings and some background textures.
It quickly shifts into much darker territory when a harsh synth bass and mid-tempo jungle-esque beat kick in and propel the song forward.
While it certainly could have some appeal to fans of jungle or maybe drum 'n' bass, this song really seems to be more designed for headphone listening.
It is chock full of little details, like a muffled sample of a scream and lots of background clicks and whirs. Because of all the little additions,
interesting mixing choices, and myriad of structural variation, this fairly lenghty track never gets boring.
The recording quality is quite good, despite the fact that on DoD's site, it states that this track is a just a demo version.
All the instruments sound very clear and they never run together or interfere with each other. The few quiet parts never sound
as though they are missing anything.
Depths of Despair's music is very effective. It creates a little world of darkness and, well, despair for the listener to reside in for its seven minute run time.
This is highly recommended listening.
